A manufacturing company located on Montreal’s South Shore is currently seeking a Mechanical Designer to join its team.
Job Description
The Mechanical Designer will work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and continuously evolving environment. The selected candidate will be responsible for designing jigs and fixtures used for welding (manual and robotic), assembly, and inspection processes for a wide range of manufactured products.
Reporting to the Methods Specialist, the Mechanical Designer will participate in all phases of project development, including:
- concept development and design
- component selection
- cost evaluation and validation
- design for manufacturability
- preparation of technical drawings
- validation of work orders.
The successful candidate will also provide support to manufacturing and quality teams during the construction, assembly, and validation of jigs and fixtures.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Design and validate jigs and fixtures using SolidWorks
- Produce manufacturing drawings required for production
- Select components and materials according to technical requirements
- Prepare bills of materials (BOM)
- Ensure products are designed and manufactured in compliance with specifications
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimize and improve designs
- Support production teams in resolving assembly and manufacturing issues
- Participate actively in brainstorming sessions and technical reviews
- Perform any other related duties associated with the position
Skills and qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical training
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design
- Excellent proficiency with SolidWorks
- Strong technical aptitude with a hands-on engineering mindset
- Good knowledge of manufacturing processes and engineering practices
- Knowledge of electromechanical systems
- Essential experience in welding and sheet metal fabrication
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities
- Strong communication skills in both French and English, written and spoken (clients located in the United States)
