Job description :

Our client is seeking an experienced Thermoset Polymer Chemist to join its growing R&D team.

We are looking for a candidate capable of developing advanced epoxy, polyurethane, and polyaspartic systems, including color formulations, while supporting production and quality teams with strong technical expertise.

Skills and qualifications :

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related field (Master’s or PhD is an asset)
  • Specialized coursework in polymer chemistry, thermoset chemistry, or coatings technology is considered an asset

Technical Experience:

3–7+ years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment within:

  • Coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers (CASE)

Hands-on experience with:

  • epoxy systems (resins, hardeners, accelerators, additives)
  • polyurethane and polyaspartic chemistry
  • thermoset formulations for industrial applications

Proven ability to:

  • develop, test, and optimize coating formulations
  • troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
  • Experience in scale-up: from R&D to pilot plant or full-scale production

Laboratory Skills

Strong understanding of:

  • viscosity measurements
  • gel time, pot life, and curing profile
  • abrasion, chemical resistance, and adhesion testing

Proficiency with laboratory instruments such as:

  • DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry)
  • FTIR
  • gloss meters, abrasion testers

Ability to maintain accurate laboratory records & follow health and safety protocols

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting findings to management and production teams

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience with color matching, pigmentation, and tinting systems
  • Knowledge of ISO and ASTM testing methods or food-grade coatings (CFIA or equivalent).
  • Experience in automotive, industrial flooring & protective coatings industries
