Job description :

Our client is a leading Canadian distributor of scientific equipment and supplies, with a proven track record spanning more than 30 years. It is a subsidiary of a Canadian leader in the field of scientific equipment. They have offices across Canada, including in Alberta, Quebec, and Ontario, with their head office located in Ontario.

Your role:

Customer installation and training:

  • Lead instrument installations, including electromechanical configuration, system calibration, and customer integration for environmental analyzers, gas chromatography equipment, etc.

Technical training:

  • Provide application-focused training to ensure customers master workflows, both in instrument use and chemistry applications.

Service and maintenance:

  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs on site or in the workshop on laboratory equipment, including, but not limited to, gas chromatography equipment.

Chemistry application support:

  • Act as the primary on-site chemistry resource for customers and the sales team, particularly for sample preparation and specialized workflows.

Technical communication:

  • Translate complex technical information into clear, actionable recommendations tailored to specific customer challenges.

Compliance and validation:

  • Modify equipment to meet CSA safety standards and validate instruments to ensure they comply with manufacturer specifications.

General support:

  • Perform any other related duties as requested by management.

Work location: Travel to clients across Canada; work from home when not traveling; occasional travel to head office in Ontario.

Skills and qualifications :

Academic background:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) in analytical chemistry required
  • Experience in gas chromatography (GC)

Professional experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an analytical laboratory or field service environment
  • Exposure to or experience in gas chromatography
  • Experience in providing technical support to colleagues or customers (an asset)

Key skills:

  • Practical laboratory experience
  • Proven technical service skills
  • Experience with inorganic and organic chemistry instruments
  • Electromechanical skills and ability to present technical information clearly and concisely
  • In-depth knowledge of gas chromatography (strongly desired)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a high level of professionalism
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Autonomy, initiative, and ability to solve problems independently
  • Excellent customer service attitude

Other requirements:

  • Availability and willingness to travel with overnight stays (in Canada and internationally) up to 70% of the time
  • Valid driver's license
  • Personal vehicle
  • Valid passport
